Help concentration – Several studies have found that concentration, attention and brain abilities improve when studying or working with plants in the room.
They purify the air – the succulents, such as sanseviérias and aloe vera, are excellent for cleaning the air and removing toxins. NASA research has found that they are able to remove 87% of volatile organic compounds (VOC). These plants are extremely beneficial in libraries and study environments, because substances such as benzene and formaldehyde/metanel are found in carpets, traces of tobacco, supermarket bags, books and paints.
They help to breathe – during the photosynthesis process, plants release oxygen, however, at night, most plants breathe like humans, releasing carbon dioxide. The succulents and some other plants continue to produce oxygen all night. Keep these plants in the room to get an extra boost of renewed air, which leads to a better night’s sleep!
They help prevent diseases – about 10% of the moisture in the atmosphere is water released by plants, the more plants you have, especially in groups, the better the moisture in your dwelling, will prevent dry skin, colds, sore throats and dry cough. The study by the Agricultural University of Norway found a 60% reduction in the rates of this type of diseases in offices with plants.
Surrounding ourselves with beautiful things, or things we like, naturally improve our mood. Perhaps having something to take care of, like a small plant, and seeing it grow and flourish positively affects our well-being and happiness in general, diminishing feelings of loneliness and isolation.
