Haworthia: small rosettes with details worth a closer look

Haworthia are generally small succulents prized for their leaf shapes and markings. This category brings together plants with very different appearances, from smooth surfaces and raised patterns to translucent leaf tips that let light through.

Their compact habit makes them suitable for small pots near a bright window or in a sheltered spot. Many form groups of rosettes over time. They can grow indoors provided they have enough light and watering is adjusted to their needs.

General Haworthia care

  • Light: provide plenty of indirect light or gentle morning sun. Avoid intense sun without acclimatisation, which can scorch the leaves.
  • Watering: let the compost dry between waterings and avoid standing water in the pot. Adjust the frequency to growth and water less when the plant is less active.
  • Compost and pot: use a free-draining mix with mineral components and pots with drainage holes.
  • Temperature and airflow: protect from frost and prolonged rain. Indoors, maintain airflow and avoid dark or permanently damp spots.
  • Maintenance: carefully remove dry leaves and check the roots when repotting. Offsets can be separated once sufficiently developed, preferably with their own roots.
