Graptoveria: hybrids with fleshy leaves and soft colours

Graptoveria come from crosses between Graptopetalum and Echeveria. They offer a wide range of rosettes, thick leaves and colours from green and blue to pink and lilac, depending on the hybrid and growing conditions.

Many have a visible waxy coating, or farina, which creates a matt finish and softens the foliage colours. Rosette size, leaf shape and tendency to produce offsets vary between cultivars, offering different volumes and contrasts for arrangements.

General Graptoveria care

  • Light: grow in a very bright spot with some hours of sun after gradual acclimatisation. Protect sensitive plants from intense sun during hot periods.
  • Watering: water after the compost has dried and let excess water drain away. Avoid water sitting in the centre of the rosettes or collecting in the pot.
  • Compost and pot: use a free-draining mix with mineral components and pots with drainage holes.
  • Cold and moisture: shelter from frost and prolonged rain. Water less when growth slows.
  • Maintenance: avoid touching or rubbing the farina, as marks can remain on the leaves. Remove dry leaves from the base; many hybrids can be propagated from offsets, leaves or cuttings.
