Echeveria are valued for their fleshy leaves arranged in rosettes, with a wide range of sizes, shapes and colours. Green, blue-grey, pink or lilac tones may combine with contrasting margins, wavy leaves or velvety surfaces.

The selection includes species and hybrids, from compact rosettes to more exuberant forms. In many varieties, a fine waxy coating called epicuticular wax gives the leaves a matt appearance. Light and season can affect colour intensity.

General Echeveria care

  • Light: choose a very bright position. Many varieties enjoy a few hours of sun, with gradual acclimatisation and protection from intense sunlight during the hottest hours.
  • Watering: allow the potting mix to dry between waterings. Direct water onto the mix and avoid leaving it trapped in the rosette centre or accumulating in the pot.
  • Potting mix and pot: use a well-drained mix with mineral components and pots with drainage holes.
  • Cold and moisture: protect from frost and persistent rain. Reduce watering when growth slows and maintain good ventilation.
  • Maintenance: carefully remove dry lower leaves and avoid rubbing off the waxy coating. Many varieties produce offsets or can be propagated from leaves and stem cuttings, depending on the type.
