Some varieties adapt well to bright rooms near a window; others grow better in a sheltered outdoor spot. This variety makes it possible to choose a Crassula for different spaces while considering each species' particular needs.

General Crassula care

  • Light: provide plenty of light. Many enjoy a few hours of gentle sun or bright partial shade; tailor exposure to the species and introduce the plant to sun gradually.
  • Watering: water when the compost is dry and let the water drain away. Avoid standing water in the pot and water less during periods of slower growth.
  • Compost and pot: use a free-draining succulent mix and a pot with drainage holes.
  • Cold: hardiness varies considerably. Protect sensitive varieties from frost and avoid keeping them wet in cold weather.
  • Maintenance: remove dry leaves and check stems and leaf joints for mealybugs. Many varieties can be propagated from cuttings after allowing the cuts to heal.
