Succulents: a collection of shapes, colours and textures

Succulents store water in leaves, stems or roots and offer far more variety than rosettes alone. Rounded leaves, branching stems, trailing plants and tiny stone-like forms all belong here. Jardim da Pini brings together varieties from around the world for beginners and collectors.

Choose according to light, space and growth habit. Echeveria are known for rosettes, Haworthia for forms and patterns, and Lithops for their living-stone appearance. Storing water does not mean all groups need the same care.

General care

  • Light: Choose light for each genus and acclimatise gradually to sun; some suit bright rooms while others need more direct sun.
  • Watering: Observe the mix and growth before watering. Let many groups dry between waterings and follow the special leaf cycle of Lithops.
  • Compost: Airy, free-draining mix suited to each plant, in a pot with drainage holes.
  • Temperature: Cold tolerance varies; protect sensitive species from frost and persistent winter rain.
  • Maintenance: Group plants with similar light and watering needs, leave room to grow and inspect leaves, stems and roots.
