The name Sempervivum comes from the Latin sempre (“always”) and vivus (“alive”), because this perennial plant keeps its leaves in winter and is very resistant to difficult growing conditions.
Some Welsh people still hold the popular belief that having them on the roof of their house guarantees the health and prosperity of those who live there. This particular sempervivum is very variable during the months of the year and variegation may be more or less present in them!
