Sedum rubrotinctum (Pork and Beans)

Sedum rubrotinctum is a herbaceous perennial succulent, much appreciated for its unique look and vibrant colors.

  • Ornamental Appearance: It forms small bushes or low mats, reaching a height of around 10 to 30 cm. It is perfect for pots, planters and rock gardens.
  • Colorful foliage: The fleshy, thick, bean-shaped leaves are the star of the plant. Initially green, they develop intense shades of red, bronze or pink at the tips when exposed to full sun, cold or water stress, creating a very decorative contrast.
  • Flowers: Produces small inflorescences in summer (or spring) with star-shaped flowers, usually bright yellow in color.
  • Resistance and Ease of Cultivation: This succulent is very easy to grow, drought-resistant and ideal for beginners or those looking for a low-maintenance plant.

Care and cultivation

  • Light: Prefers full sun (at least 4-6 hours a day) to ensure the most intense coloring of the leaves. Tolerates half shade, but the colors will be greener.
  • Watering: It is highly drought tolerant. Water moderately, only when the substrate is completely dry.
  • Substrate: You need a substrate for cacti and succulents: light, porous and with excellent drainage.
  • Temperature: Adapts well to tropical and subtropical climates. Although hardy, it is sensitive to severe frosts.
  • Propagation: Extremely easy to propagate by stem cuttings or even from leaves that fall into the substrate.
