Echeveria Dark Ice

Echeveria Dark Ice is a brightly colored succulent, ideal for collectors and lovers of plants that stand out. Its name refers to the dramatic contrast between the blue-grey center (“Ice”) and the dark, reddish margins (“Dark”).

Ornamental features

  • Shape: Medium-sized, compact, symmetrical rosettes.
  • Foliage: It has fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves, the leaves are coated with a thin layer of bloom (a natural white powder) which gives them a velvety texture and a blue-grey or blue-green base tone.
  • Dark Ice” coloring: The most striking feature is its intense color. When exposed to full sun or cooler temperatures (so-called “controlled stress”), the edges and tips of the leaves turn a deep purple, dark red or almost black, creating a fascinating contrast with the lighter center.

Care and cultivation

  • Light: Requires full sun or very bright indirect sunlight to maintain the compact shape of the rosette and intensify the purple/red color on the edges of the leaves. Lack of light can cause stioling (elongated and weak growth).
  • Watering: The “soak and dry” method applies. Water abundantly, but only when the substrate is completely dry.
  • Substrate: Use a highly porous substrate with excellent drainage, specifically for cacti and succulents.
  • Temperature: Adapts well to mild temperatures. It should be protected from frost and temperatures below 2°C.

    .
  • Propagation: Relatively easy to propagate by leaf cuttings and offsets.
