Conophytum Burgeri is a peculiar succulent with an onion-shaped body. It is possibly the most unusual of all the species in the Conophytum genus. It has a small fissure in the upper part of the body and the epidermis is smooth, shiny and translucent, the color varying from light green to purple. It grows slowly and sometimes subdivides over several years to form two or even three heads. Unlike most other Conophytums, this variant grows in a rainy region in spring and early summer, when dormant its outer covering dries up forming a thin, white, persistent leaf sheath.
The plant we sent is about 4 years old, from our seedbed, and is about 3 to 4 cm in diameter.
