Some keep compact rosettes; others grow longer stems and develop a branching or trailing habit. They suit pots and arrangements where you can follow their growth and enjoy the contrast between thick leaves and delicate colours.

General Graptopetalum care

  • Light: provide plenty of light and introduce the plant to direct sun gradually. A spot that is too dark can lead to elongated stems and less compact rosettes.
  • Watering: let the compost dry between waterings and avoid standing water in the pot. Water less as temperatures and growth slow down.
  • Compost and pot: choose a free-draining succulent mix and pots with drainage holes.
  • Cold and rain: protect sensitive varieties from frost and prolonged rain, especially when grown in pots.
  • Handling and propagation: leaves detach easily on some species. Avoid rubbing off the waxy coating, and use healthy leaves or cuttings for propagation, allowing cuts to heal first.
