Their fleshy leaves can show shades of green, blue, yellow or red, depending on the species and variety. Sun exposure and the season can also affect the intensity of their colours. Some species produce small star-shaped flowers, adding interest to the garden.

General Sedum care

  • Light: choose a bright spot. Many varieties enjoy direct sunlight, while others benefit from protection during the hottest hours. Introduce plants to the sun gradually.
  • Watering: water when the compost is dry and let excess water drain away. Avoid leaving water in the saucer and adjust the frequency to the temperature, season and growing conditions.
  • Compost and pot: use a free-draining succulent mix and pots with drainage holes.
  • Cold: hardiness varies greatly between species. Some Sedum tolerate frost, while others need protection; check each product's guidance before leaving it outdoors in winter.
  • Maintenance: remove dry leaves and spent flower stems. Many varieties can be propagated from cuttings; let the cut dry before planting.
